The 2014 ACT Chief Minister’s Inclusion Awards were tinged with Nican with our Marketing and Projects Manager, Craig Wallace, winning the Leaders in Inclusion Life Time Achievement Award. Whilst the award recognises the work Craig has done at Nican over the last 5 years it also encapsulates more than 25 years of work in both a voluntary and professional capacity, advocating for inclusion of people with a disability.

Craig was also announced the winner of the prestigious 2014 ACT Chief Minister’s Award for Excellence.  This award is the overall winner of all the categories.  Judging by the loud applause received when this award was announced, it appeared the vast majority of the guests occupying the Great Hall at Parliament House agreed with the judges decision.

Craig dedicated his awards to the inspirational work of Stella Young who was his colleague and good friend, and to the work that still is required to ensure Australia is a fully inclusive society.

Congratulations also go to Rebus.  Rebus won the Inclusion in Education and Training award for their thought provoking forum theatre product. Until recently Rebus operated under the Nican umbrella and was a project incubated through the ACT Innovation Grants in 2013.  The theatre company goes from strength to strength and Nican wishes them well in their future endeavours.
